Week 3 Post
This week we started reading “My Gender Work Book,” by Bornstein. One of the most fundamental topics was the theme of genderlessness. Borstein claims that genderlessness can be achieved. I have to disagree. I believe that genderlessness is a state of mind, therefore it cannot be achieved in the real world. One will always have to be conscious once one defines as having no gender. For example conscious of what bathroom to go into or what to wear or who to be attracted to? being conscious of this kind of decision making does not let someone be free of having no gender. It is impossible for our society to be genderlessness and well we live in it therefore impossible. Another discussion we had in-class was about the media and how it portrays women in general. For example the advertisements during the super bowl. I found this discussion very intersting because it is until we as a class look deep into these advertisement that we find what is being portrayed, other than the product. It is incredible how if we just watch it we don’t think about it because it is very automatic for us to accept whatever society sees us as.
